Multimedia Reporter, Now Toronto

Location: Toronto / GTA
Engagement: Freelance

Now Toronto is looking for a sharp, curious and driven Multimedia Reporter who knows Toronto, understands its culture and can turn what’s happening into stories people care about.

Now Toronto is part of the Gonez Media family, Canada’s fastest growing independent media company.

We don’t just cover Toronto. We are part of its culture. From breaking news and politics to food, entertainment, lifestyle and travel, Now Toronto reflects the people, places and conversations that move this city.

This is a video first reporting role for someone with strong journalistic instincts who is connected to Toronto, confident on camera and ready to get out into the city. You should know what’s happening, recognize what deserves attention and bring fresh ideas to the newsroom.

What you’ll do

  • Pitch timely, original stories with a clear angle and a strong reason for our audience to care.
  • Report and present social videos, including explainers, news updates, interviews and streeters.
  • Attend press conferences, community events and breaking news scenes to gather footage, interviews and firsthand information.
  • Cover food, entertainment, lifestyle and travel through engaging video and written reporting.
  • Write clear, accurate articles that complement video coverage and stand on their own.
  • Capture usable footage and clean audio, and edit social videos as required.
  • Develop stories for TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and nowtoronto.com, adapting your approach to each platform.
  • Monitor developing stories, emerging trends and online conversations, and flag coverage opportunities quickly.
  • Work with editorial and production colleagues to get stories published while they are still relevant.
  • Communicate progress, meet agreed deadlines and flag obstacles early.
