Role Description

Now Toronto is seeking a digitally-savvy, Toronto-obsessed Writer/Editor to join our editorial team full-time. Reporting to the Managing Editor, you’ll help shape the editorial direction of the site by assigning stories, guiding freelancers, and ensuring coverage reflects the pulse of the city. This role goes beyond just news — you’ll be driving coverage of Toronto’s most important conversations, from politics and local issues to cultural trends, must-see events, and the evolving lifestyle of the GTA. You’ll pitch and assign unique story ideas, edit copy for clarity and impact, and step in to write when needed. Whether it’s breaking news, a new restaurant opening, a festival review, or a deep dive into housing, you’ll ensure our content is timely, engaging, and resonates with our audience.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of reporting, writing, and/or editing experience in a digital newsroom or equivalent.
• Strong experience assigning and editing stories, with proven ability to guide writers and shape content from pitch to publication.
• Deep understanding of Toronto’s news, events, politics, culture, and lifestyle.
• Exceptional writing, research, and editorial judgment with a sharp, engaging voice.
• Strong digital instincts—skilled at writing and editing for web and mobile audiences, optimizing for SEO, and creating content designed for high engagement on social media.
• Ability to juggle multiple stories on tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy, quality, and depth.
• Degree in journalism, communications, or related field preferred.
